Hello P,
ReplyDeleteAnd what is normal. Stop.
Now that's the 64,000 dollar question, Jane and Lance. :-)

ReplyDeleteTELEGRAM REC'D W THANX/BLANKET RAIN CONTINUES NORTH/WELL DONE TO CONCERT PARTICIPANTS/FEED THAT COLD/GLAD OF NEWS WHEN YOU CAN SEND/close.
YAM xx
Blanket rain continues just about everywhere, Yam. My poor mother-in-law had just one day with enough sun to sit in the conservatory. Sigh... Cold has been well-fed and is on the way out, thanks. :-)
DeleteThank you for the telegram, Perpetua & realising that by recognising your format as being a telegram, I am once more showing my age :-) As always, I look forward to the resumption of normal service
ReplyDeleteIsn't it awful how many ways there are to betray our age, Ricky? I gather there are firms which offer a 'telegram' as a greetings service, but it's just not the same as that tiny envelope and the pasted-on ticker tape. :-) I still have the only one I ever received, offering me my place at college back in December 1964!
DeleteSo pleased the concert was such a success. Not so good about the 'atishoos.' Hope you're feeling better soon. Lots of rain here too.
ReplyDeleteIt was super, Molly, and financially successful for both the church and the band, much to DD's relief. The atishoos were the first cold I've had in at least two years, so I can't really grumble. Much better now, thanks, though I can't say the same for the weather.
DeleteLoved this. I hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Jennifer. I'm feeling much better now, thanks, and longing for some sunshine.
DeleteHow lovely to have a telegram again! And one bearing good news - apart from the coughs and sneezes that is, but even they give good reason to tuck up at home and take things easy.
ReplyDeleteWriting this made me quite nostalgic, Helen. I only ever had one telegram, but it was such important news (my college place) that I still have it. The concert was indeed good news and the cold (only sneezes, no coughs, thank goodness) has now done its worst. But the weather is certainly not conducive to outdoor activity...
DeleteGood news and get well soon. Much preferred telegrams to the dreaded telex. I used to stand on the tape .
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be the bearer of good news and getting well is happening rapidly, thanks. I don't think I ever saw a telex machine working, but still have the only telegram I ever received (offering me a place at college).
DeleteYou gave me a smile with your telegram Perpetua! It seems another age that these were a method of communication.
ReplyDeleteSo pleased you enjoyed the concert and the aspiring artistes ... commiserations about the cold. They should never be shared!
Glad you enjoyed it, Shirley. Yes, the telegram format is definitely a blast from the past. :-) The concert was really super and much enjoyed by everyone. The cold was a nuisance, but a small price to pay.
DeleteIt's pleasing to receive good news from you (apart from the cold, of course) and in such a fun format! Especially glad that your visit to family was enjoyable and the concert was a great success.
ReplyDeleteThe cold and the dreadful weather meant I thought we all needed cheering-up, Linda, and I had fun compiling this. :-) The concert was great and we all enjoyed the weekend very much.
DeleteSENSE OF HUMOUR STILL INTACT STOP EXCELLENT NEWS STOP DON'T STOP BLOGGING STOP :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, Patricia. We're all at it now. :-) It takes more than a cold and heavy rain to dent my sense of humour, as DH would tell you. Blogging will certainly not stop....
DeleteGosh. Lucky old you - a personally delivered cold. Just what every girl dreams of. The last time I saw a telegram was the day I got married - Skype, What's App, Facebook and the likes have finished off the humble telegram. Snif.
ReplyDeleteThe poor man did his best not to share it, MM, but didn't succeed. It was my first for 2 years, so I shouldn't complain. As for telegrams, I've only ever had one myself, with my college place offer, though our two both had the later equivalent when they married, as you did. Gone. but not forgotten....
DeleteA brilliant format...perfect for transmitting essential news, and apart from the cold, transmitting such lovely news. So glad the concert was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteIt was one of those ideas which came in the middle of the night, Janice. :-) The cold has just about gone now, but the memories of the concert are still crystal clear. It was such fun.
DeleteMade me laugh! Glad you are making quick recovery and that the concert was so splendid.
ReplyDeleteGlad it worked, :-) The cold has just about gone now, thanks, and the concert was enormously enjoyable. Can't wait for the next one.

WAITING FOR MORE NEWS. STOP.
HAPPY WEEK. OVER AND OUT. ):-
More news to follow, Val, now the busyness is subsiding. I think most people only ever had telegrams for things like weddings. My only one was the offer of a place at college and I still have it. There was just something special about a telegram. :-)
DeleteGosh this telegram talk really takes me back Perpetua. Back in the day, when our Emma was born, 1973, my in-laws didn't have a phone and we had to send a telegram to tell them they were grandparents!! Still have it by the way! Glad you enjoyed your concert and hope you're feeling better now.
ReplyDeletePatricia x
Yes, it's a real blast from the past, isn't it, Patricia? It's interesting that so many of us have special telegrams which we've treasured carefully over the years. Somehow an email message, however welcome, just isn't the same. :-)
DeleteThe cold has completely gone now, I'm glad to say, and I hope it will be another two years before the next....

ReplyDeleteThanks, Dee. Life is indeed daily and recently there’s been a lot of it. :-) As it happens I'm just working on a post at the moment, so you'll have more news of me soon and not in telegraphese this time. Watch this space...
