Laughter is the best medicine

On this cold, windy and wet evening, as the weather tries to decide whether to rain or to snow, and as I try to sort out in my somewhat overfull mind all I was told at my appointment with the consultant yesterday, this little gem has just popped up in my YouTube subscription channel.  Suddenly the world seems warmer and my mind much clearer. J Enjoy!

  1. That was just super....and I'm not letting the dogs see it in case it gives them ideas they don't need.

I do hope all went well yesterday....and that you are prepared for being snowed in again if i read the weather forecast correctly.

I've had a slew of lovely clips today...you might like this one

    1. Brilliant, isn't it, Helen? I don't think your dogs will need any lessons in getting you to feed them. :-)

Yes. it went well yesterday, though there's a lot to think about and I'll post an update soon. It looks like we may escape a lot of snow, but I'm not betting on it yet. We're always well stocked in winter, so I'm not fretting.

Thanks for the link which I will follow up tomorrow morning when there's less contention on the line.

    1. It's the very latest cartoon and far too good not to share, BtoB. Yes, the news was basically good, thanks, but it's all more complex than I had anticipated, so a lot to think about.

  3. That naughty cat is so like my two. Not quite sure what your consultation involved, Perpetua - but hope things went well for you.

    1. Simon's cat is so wonderfully true to life, Molly, and makes me long to have cats again. The consultation should more accurately have been called the appointment with the consultant, as per my last post. It's about potential cataract surgery and I'm now on the waiting list.

    2. Oh yes - I hope you have an appointment to have the surgery done soon. All the best.

    3. No date yet, but it shouldn't be too long from what he said, Molly.

  4. Brilliant! Tinka is currently lying on my left arm refusing to let me type properly....
Very blustery here and cold [it dropped from 10C to 4C during this morning] but still wet so our soggyness continues.

    1. I thought you'd enjoy it, Antoinette. :-)

You've had so much rain recently, even worse than up here, I think. The wind has been fairly fierce here, but up in Scotland it's been appalling. Still, the days are lengthening and spring will come one day....

  5. Cats. Who'd have 'em? Us, obviously.
Simon really should know better by now, Cats always win.
I hope the op' date won,t be too far ahead now you've had the consultation Perpetua.
    Blessings.

    1. And us again one day, ray. The really big downside of being peripatetic is not having cats.

It shouldn't be too long, Ray, but there's more to think about than expected. i'll do a proper update when it's all clear.

  6. I love that cat, he is such a cuddly, naughty, little pussy.
Hope you haven't got difficult decisions to make, and that all went well with your appointment.
    Snow, snow, definitely stay away.

    1. And so very real, Rosemary. Quite as appealing and frustrating as any we ever had.

There are decisions to be made, but hopefully not too difficult, once I've had chance to think about everything.

      As for the snow, nooooooo!

  7. Like everyone else I hope the appointment went well and that it won't be too long before everything is sorted out.

Thanks for the video clip...love it!

  8. That cat is too cute and funny! All the very best with your surgery options; I know from experiences of others that it is not necessarily a simple and straightforward decision. Good luck!

    1. Simon's Cat is always a joy, Patricia - so very true-to-life.

No, it's nowhere near as easy to decide as I had thought, now I have more information, but I'm getting there. Life can be complicated.....

  11. Hello Perpetua:
We do so hope that all was well when you saw the Consultant and that you are now clearer in your mind as to what procedures will take place and how you will be affected.

From our own experience of near endless appointments with consultants, one is always left with an overload of information with which to come to terms.

    1. Thanks, Jane and Lance. I knew you would understand how one can come out of an appointment more confused than when one went in. I thought it would be simple and it turns out there are more options than I realised and I have to decide what to choose. Watch this space....

  12. Thanks for sharing the Simon's cat clip. It's been a good way to start the day today. I hope your waiting list isn't too long for the cataract operation now that you know more of what will happen during the procedure. I have a long way to go before I get mine treated as I've only just been diagnosed with this eye problem.
Hope the rest of the week goes well, Perpetua.

    1. It's my pleasure, Linda. The waiting list isn't too long, thank goodness, but there are implications and decisions I hadn't expected and I'm now working my way through them. I do hope you don't have too long to wait before your eye problem can be treated.

  13. Cats are just so like that!

I'll be very interested to read what you have to say about your consultation. And then to add my own two cents worth! Interesting we should be doing this at the same time! I wonder how similar our experience will be???

    1. Tell me about it, Broad!

I planning to do a post about my appointment once I've sorted everything out in my own mind and told the family first. I never leave them to find things out from the blog. :-) It's just more complicated than I had thought, because of my poor sight.

  17. Well that certainly put a smile on my face at the end of what has been an unusually stressful day.

I do hope your cataracts can be easily repaired ... my father has recently had surgery on both of his and is a new man :)

    1. Nothing like Simon's cat for smoothing out stress lines, Annie. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you.

I'm on the waiting list for surgery now and am hoping I get as good a result as your father. I quite fancy being a new woman. :D

  18. Oh Perpetua - Sybille & I have just killed ourselves laughing watching the video - what Oscar was like before ceasing to be able to jump on seats & benches because of his age. However, he is still apt to try & trip you up, just as you are serving his food :-)

Like many of your previous commenters, I await your post about the outcome of your consultation on Monday.

    1. It's wonderful, isn't it Ricky? So perfectly observed and all of us who have (or have had) cats recognise ourselves in Simon and our beloved moggies in his cat. :-) Glad to know that Oscar is still doing his best to live up to his calling.

The follow-up post won't be long, but life's just a bit hectic today.

  19. That IS one of my cats. No question. We've just been through the same ritual exactly, in the kitchen. It did not, however, end up with me on the floor, as our tea towel is more firmly gripped on its hook!

Hope all will be well with your eyes, and that even if more complex than you anticipated, the surgery will be soon and the recovery rapid!

    1. But which cat was it, CB - the Good Cat or the Bad Cat? I'd make sure that tea-towel stays on its hook if I were you.

Thanks for the good wishes. It's waiting list time at the moment, which gives me chance to assimilate all the information.

  20. However did you know that this was JUST the kind of cheer I needed this morning! I'm giggling out loud, Perpetua, realizing, of course, that I would have ended on the floor just as poor Simon did.

Good wishes and prayers are coming your way.

    1. Thanks, Penny, much appreciated.

I think Simon's Cat would brighten any day and some of the cartoons, like this one, really are laugh-out-loud funny. In the dull, dreary days of February, we need all the giggles we can get. :-)

    1. I've always thought that on Friday mornings, at the end of the working week, we need all the laughs we can get, so I'm happy to have obliged. :-) I have a wonderful image of a small terrier trying to scale the heights of the counter by way of your legs. I do hope his claws have been trimmed......

  22. I love it when you share Simon's Cat. Always brings cheer. I was so touched at the post you wrote when sharing about your gratitude towards the healthcare system. As you feel comfortable I hope you'll share updates on your medical journey. There are so many of us who care about you with love and prayers, Perpetua. I love your ability to share humor, which is good for each of us, no doubt! oxo

    1. It would be pure selfishness top keep a new Simon's Cat cartoon to myself, Debra. We don't need to be cat owners to find them hilarious. :-) Thank you so much for the kind thoughts. I'm planning a post to bring you all up-to-date, but life's been a bit busy and I'm still thinking it through. Hopefully later today.....

  23. Dear Perpetua, oh I'm still grinning after laughing out loud. Chortling really at Simon and the cat. So true to life. Matthew, one of the three cats with whom I live, has the habit of jumping up on me and suddenly I find myself with a tiger cat clutching my sweatshirt. It's good I wear so many layers or I'd have scratch marks all over my chest! Thanks so much for this morning's laughter!!! Peace.

    1. I don't think there's a cat owner on the planet who hasn't had their cat jump up on them in this way, Dee. We've had cats in the past with whom armour would have been the best option, and certainly stout jeans and a thick sweatshirt were always a good idea. I'm so glad you enjoyed the clip and I now have this lovely mental picture of you fending off your much-loved Matthew. :-)
