A little placeholder

….until my recalcitrant brain decides to function properly again and let me actually write a post. We once had a much-loved cat who behaved very much like this, though not with the same consequences, thank goodness.

Back soon….

P.S. Many thanks to Penny who first introduced me to Simon’s Cat.

  1. I enjoyed Simon's cat....

You need some sunshine, I think...does wonders for the blogging blues.

    Does wonders generally.

    1. And how, Fly! The sun has actually been shining this afternoon, which is probably why I found the mental energy to even think about posting. :-) Glad you enjoyed Simon's Cat. Makes me laugh out loud every time.

  2. LOVE IT!! I haven't encountered Simon's Cat before, but I recognise the cat behaviour (albeit a tad exaggerated, I believe!!) Ours, although elderly, can still nag very effectively, with increased volume as she's going deaf! Looking forward to a 'proper' blog when you feel up to it. Marking is well finished now, but services and sermons are taking time. The newly appointed Archdeacon of Montgomery (& vicar of Berriew) - to be inducted in September - is a member of TSSF, so I'll contact him to tell him what we're doing and invite him along.

    1. Glad you enjoyed it, Helva. Apart from the use of inanimate objects, not exaggerated at all - at least where our moggy was concerned. :-)

So John has retired, has he? I look forward to meeting his successor in due course.

  3. Rain, rain and more rain here. Where has summer gone? Stolen, no doubt, by some enemy yet to be identified. Will generations to come know what a real summer is?
As you can see - I'm feeling a little damp over here too.

    1. You too, Pondside? I thought I'd read somewhere that Canada was sharing in the heatwave from south of the border? It's so dispiriting to have endless grey skies and wet earth and especially when it's so cold that one has to dress in layers.

It's amazing how much better I feel after just one afternoon of sunshine, even if it's still not exactly warm. If I ruled the world I'd share out the weather more evenly. :-)

  5. I subscribe to Simon's Cat too, so had already seen it, but it was worth watching again.
What I really like is the way the little stinker has the final word. (always)

    1. Did Penny introduce you to Simon's Cat too, Ray? I can watch this one again and again, because it brings back such memories of a very characterful little black and white cat, who would flatten her white tummy against our glass kitchen door in exactly this fashion. :-)

  6. And the final word is always "Feed me" (point at mouth, walk towards where the food is). My cat friends always love Simon's Cat. And we dog people have yet another good reson to be glad we are dog people, maybe, when we see one of his animations.

    1. Oh, cats always know where the food is and who will give it to them, Baby Sis. As a cat person through and through I've loved every one of these I've seen. Very clever and only too accurate..... :-)

    2. Dogs make their feelings felt in all sorts of subtle ways as well. Edgar settles down for the long wait when he sees me put a chicken in the oven. His behaviour is always extraspecially good when one is roasting. And once, when he was thirsty but his water bowl was empty, he stared hard at the kitchen tap and went yip until we copped a hint. When he was a puppy he was very adapt at putting his paw on the power button on my computer tower and switching it off! It usually led to a sigh from me and walk for him...

    3. I can so easily imagine Edgar waiting patiently for his roast chicken treat and I love the thought of him reproachfully telling you he was dying of thirst. :-) What does he do now you use a laptop, not a computer tower?

  7. I did enjoy Simon's cat and can see mine in that animation. Hadn't heard of it before - must go google!!

  8. Hope you get that recalcitrant brain sorted soon, Perpetua - you make it sound like it had a life of its own.
Simon's cat might be displaying very feline behaviour but our Darwin is just as persistent and oblivious to anything but his own wants that I think he might just be part cat (and part sheep, on account of his fleece.)Brilliantly captured.

    1. Oh, it does, Annie, it does. :-) Sometimes it hardly belongs to me at all and just goes on doing its own thing....

Isn't the cartoon lovely? I think any pet owner will recognise the singlemindedness of an animal bent on getting its own way and its food.

  9. So glad to have introduced you to Simon's Cat, Perpetua! I guess every one of us who are owned by cats have seen an episode that illustrates our "master" perfectly. I can watch certain episodes over and over, too. One of my favorites is the one about the box.

    1. I'm forever in your debt, Penny. :-) The Box was, I think, the first one I saw and it too is brilliant. I love the close observation and the exasperated affection that creates such accurate little sketches.

  10. Simon's Cat is new to me! Very fun! I like your wording...recalcitrant brain! I have one of those, too, Perpetua! LOL! And I can't blame it on rain or lack of sunshine! :-) I love it that you pop in and say hello...at least then I know you're well. Just a bit distracted...that can be good for the soul! Debra

Recalcitrant sums up the present situation - my brain just won't settle down and think straight for longer than a few minutes at a time. Even commenting just gets done in fits and starts. Thanks for missing me. :-)

  12. My neighbour's cat across the road fascinates me. An adorable rescued street cat (Siamese although looks burmese to me) who is quite the personality and wanders around on the guttering two or three floors up and then stands there moaning pretending he can't get down. He always does of course.

    1. So you've been infected by the cat-watching bug too, roughseas? I have an incurable case.... Your neighbour's cat sounds like the type that will play to the gallery, cats being the animal kingdom's born celebs, revelling in attention and affectionate indulgence. :-)

  14. Aren't the Simon's Cat cartoon wonderful. My Zebby Cat can emulate the black-eyed human from "that baseball bat incident" without needing the bat!

I've just recovered from the latest, bless my rescued lad. He does love me and show lots of gentle affection, honest!

    1. It sounds like you're a longtime fan of Simon's Cat, Mickle. Must go and look for the one about the baseball bat.

Cats look so soft and fluffy, but they have many sides to their personalities and though I've never had a black eye form any of ours, I still bear some scars in other ways. :-)

    4. I'm delighted that you enjoyed Cat Man Do, here are links to my current two favourites:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn2h3_aH3vo&feature=relmfu

I can only laugh and love my Zebby Cat for his very contrariness, determination and "now a senior cat completely set in his ways .... until he changes his mind about something again" nature. Currently he is showing his love by snuggling up and wanting to wash me, often.

I hope all is going well in France for you and your DH, including lots more sunshine, Michelle/Mickle xxxx

    5. Oh wow! two more to watch. Thanks very much, Michelle, I shall watch them as soon as I've posted this. I always enjoy reading your posts about Zebby, and know just what you mean about contrariness and determination. Cats have such character. :-)

We're enjoying our time, thanks, and are cautiously hopeful that the worst of the wet weather may be over. At least the forecast for the next few days has more little sun symbols and fewer rain ones than previously....

  15. Perpetua, you gave me my first, and probably second and third, laughs of the day. I wasn't familiar with Simon's Cat and now must find some more.

Not-to-worry. You are safely bookmarked here on the Cutoff for when time and circumstances allow you to write.

    1. Thanks, Janice. Had you come across Simon's Cat before, or is it new to you too? Normandy is cheering up nicely now, with sunny intervals today and a much warmer wind. We've now had a whole day without rain - the first for what seems like weeks. Long may it continue. :-)

    1. Isn't it fun, PolkaDot? Do you remember the little black and white cat we had until we moved to the vicarage? It was she who would plaster herself to the kitchen door in just this way, rattling the flap over the letterbox to attract our attention. :-)

I'm hoping the kittens are thriving, but sadly they appear to have deserted us completely. :-(

    1. Glad you enjoyed it, Ricky. Oscar's door jumping days are probably in the past now, but I'm sure other little quirks of his behaviour will have been summed up in one of these superb cartoons. :-)

I too hope my thinking processes will kickstart themselves before long. More sunshine would definitely help.....
